This week (I could’ve started this off with “today” since it’s happening right now but was technically announced yesterday which I guess could be considered “last week”, this is stressful) the FDA announced "they are removing the “Black Box” warning from menopausal hormone replacement therapy products.

Straight from the FDA website news release:

Women have used HRT products for decades to relieve menopausal symptoms. However, their use plummeted in the early 2000s when the FDA applied boxed warnings following a Women’s Health Initiative study that found a statistically non-significant increase in the risk of breast cancer diagnosis. The average age of women in the study was 63 years — over a decade past the average age of a woman experiencing menopause — and study participants were given a hormone formulation no longer in common use.

The One Good Thing is this shows an appetite to learn, to admit mistakes, and to change course. And don’t take it from me, take it from those leading the largest women’s health companies:
