This Week’s One Good Thing:

I had one of the coolest opportunities this week, playing Healthcare Jeopardy as part of the opening session at HLTH USA 2025. I took it too seriously and ended up winning the thing due to a strategy of just pressing the buzzer as absolutely fast as possible whether I heard the question or not. I’d then catch up by reading the teleprompter and get my answer in. We got to select a charity to donate the winnings toward, and the other contestants chose international charities (really important in their own right), but I went with a home-grown startup of a charity Zorya Foundation.

The reason this is One Good Thing is in line with the meme “you can just do things”. Kat McDavitt saw a need in the world, too many women leaving the healthcare workforce or not able to participate in some of the events and continuing education due to childcare costs and started the Zorya Foundation. A direct impact, with probably negative overhead, as in they have to pay out of their own salaries for the website domain name renewal haha.

It’s a great thing we live in a country where you can just do things. And HLTH showed that in an incredible way.
